Energy company looking to invest over $20M in materials and manufacturing

Traditional energy company in China is transitioning and expanding into new business domains. They are looking to collaborate with the right partners and invest in new technology or products in the materials area so that they could establish a competitive edge in commercializing such relevant technologies/products. Their investment could be in the $20 – 100M range.

Shanxi Energy Investment is interested in investing in advanced materials:

  • Semiconductor materials and composite materials including carbon fibers
  • Associated equipment and the manufacturing of these materials.

They are looking for a relatively ready to deploy products so scaling up and commercial production stages both considered.

Next steps: Virtual meeting starting late May.  Pilot and commercial manufacturing in 2021.

They are new to working with (MIT) startups.  Will provide follow-ups, yes/no/maybe.
