Deadline: November 15, 2020

A leading food and pharmaceutical company is seeking startups engaged in taste simulation technologies to improve the lives of people who either 1) have limitations to their sense of taste or 2) have to cut salt and/or sugar from their diets.

Potential features currently envisioned (e.g. FlaVR Labs, SweetBud):

  1. Ability to enhance or suppress taste to suit personal preferences, conditions, or even mood such as the way volume music can be adjusted
  2. Ability to deliver effect through eating utensils (chopsticks, spoons, forks, etc.) or dishes.
  3. Ability to function with both liquid and solid foods.
  4. Ability to control of the above features remotely in conjunction with a smartphone or other electronic device.
  5. Cannot have adverse health effects.

Approaches that are out of scope (e.g. TasteTro, OicyTaste)

  1. Indirect flavor modulation techniques via sight, sound and touch.
  2. Personalized meal suggestion system via iOS or android apps
  3. Automatic mixing system for seasonings

The $1.2B company is headquartered in Japan with international operations and subsidiaries. They have partnered with another MIT-connected startup in the past.
