Leading medium-sized chemical manufacturer seeking startups to visually detect food freshness and spoilage

Denka, a leading medium-sized chemical manufacturer, is looking for startups that have the technology to visually detect food freshness and spoilage.

The goal is to manufacture and sell labels and indicators that have the function of visually displaying food freshness and spoilage, and food packaging containers/food storage containers with the same function.

Denka is looking specifically for startups with the following technologies:

  • Technology that has the potential to detect or sense food freshness and/or spoilage visually or other simple indication method. 
  • Technology for sensing gas without using electric power
  • Example 1: Technology that detects gas with an NFC tag type sensor and indicates reading results on a smartphone
  • Example 2: Label-type sensor technology that visually indicates changes in colors with the concentration of the gas
  • Technology to detect microorganisms without using electric power
  • Example 1: Technology that detects microorganisms and microorganism metabolites with NFC tag type sensors and indicates reading results on a smartphone
  • Example 2: Label-type sensor technology that visual indicates changes in colors with the reactions of microorganisms and microbial metabolites

Denka would like to consider flexibility in consideration of the proposer's business model:

  • Joint development of new products
  • Product sales in the Japanese market
  • Obtaining license to manufacture and sell in Japan

The sponsoring group is the New Business Development Department, which belongs to the Corporate Department. Our mission is to create new businesses based on new technologies, especially in collaboration with startups.

Denka has a track record of establishing Denka Kew Genomics in collaboration with KEW, Inc., a oncogene mutation testing service company in the United States.
