Plant Emissions Testing

Deadline: April 18, 2022

P&G London plant operates under the Environment Agency IPPC permit which has defined emissions limits. The site is required to complete emissions tests monthly and annually on the powder and pasting making stack, testing for various pollutants. A probe is currently entered through a sampling point located towards the top of the stack to test the emissions.

The monthly compliance emissions tests are currently being completed by a specialist third-party company, which comes at a cost per test. These emissions tests also require Working at Height protection, which is provided by another third-party company, causing additional costs.

This challenge exists in other countries and regions beyond the UK.

Business Challenge / Needs Definition:

P&G is looking for innovative solutions that can help the team automate this process, removing the need for the third parties, saving significant costs and driving increased flexibility in the business’s ability to make formula changes. Capabilities include:

• Ability to leverage existing probes or probes with equal capabilities

• Ability to meet performance level required to meet regulatory standards

• Removal of human operators at heights requiring the testing and the additional Working from Height protection

• Increased frequency of measurement and improved safety

• Manageable resource & time requirement to achieve same or improved results

The team will be evaluating the solution for:

• Technical Feasibility: Demonstrated application to in similar use cases to ultimately be tested in a live pilot scenario

• Affordability: Cost-effective over desired ROI timeline. The yearly affordability target is roughly in $50,000/year.

Startups must be able to immediately activate in the UK for the pilot should be able to scale into other regions.

Relevant technology domains may include, but are not limited to:

  • Durable Environmental Sensors
  • Automated Emissions Captured Systems
  • Drones
  • Microsatellites
  • Automative Unmanned Aerial Systems
