Anglo American is partnering with EIT RawMaterials to launch the Innovation Challenge for Pathways to Decarbonizing Steel, inviting innovators, scientists, engineers, and startups to join them in tackling one of the most pressing issues of our time: reducing carbon emissions in the steel industry.
Innovators are encouraged to apply here by May 22, 2023, at 2 pm ET. Early applicants are strongly encouraged.
Focus areas:
-Mining: The beneficiation of iron ore feeds for use in Direct-Reduced Iron processes
-Pre-processing: Reducing or removing carbon emissions in existing pre-processing stages such as sintering and induration
-Production: The use of Advanced Blast Furnace technologies, DRI-Electric Arc Furnace processes, or alternative steelmaking technologies
-Recycling: Enabling increased use of scrap metal feedstock in high-quality flat steel production
-Post-processing: Using carbon-capture utilization or sequestration solutions to meet the scale of blast furnace carbon emissions.
