Application of AI to Manufacturing Sustainability - Startup Exchange Lightning Talks

Location

Zoom Webinar

Overview

The MIT Startup Exchange Lightning Talk below is part of the full agenda for Application of AI to Manufacturing Sustainability, running from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM, EST.

The chemical industry is increasingly leveraging artificial Intelligence in their quest for new synthetic routes and chemical structures used in a wide variety of applications including: building materials, packaging, agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and consumer products.  While past efforts focused on optimizing time and cost of producing materials, growing environmental concerns, and new legislation lead manufacturers to address the environmental impact and sustainability of their products. In this webinar we present research on, and application of, computer-assisted technologies to assist researchers and corporate R&D scientists and engineers in identifying and leveraging environmentally friendly chemistry and materials.

Agenda

12:35 PM
Co-Founder & Scientific Advisor, and MIT Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Xinterra
Tonio Buonassisi
Tonio Buonassisi
Co-Founder & Scientific Advisor, and MIT Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Tonio Buonassisi (MIT MechE) combines machine learning and high-throughput experiments to create new materials & systems for sustainability. His early-career research in solar energy and technoeconomic analysis assisted dozens of companies, and earned him a PECASE bestowed by President Obama. In recent years, he was based at the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) in Singapore, where he also served as founding director of the Accelerated Materials Development for Manufacturing (AMDM) programme, a ~US$18M program that demonstrated accelerations of ~20x across multiple materials domains. From these efforts, the spin-out Xinterra was born, which is seeding applied ML efforts in the region and beyond. In December 2021, he returned to MIT full time, and continues to serve as scientific advisor to Xinterra.
